Wow! It’s sad to learn that singer/songwriter Jessie Powell has passed away at 51 years old. His birthday was September 12th, according to Wikipedia. just a day before he passed away. His sisters, Tamara & Tina, reported the shocking sad news on Intagram, but they didn’t say what may have been the cause of death. Jesse Powell’s family has asked the public for privacy at this time.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home,” reads Tamara’s Instagram post. “The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy. Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career.”
“We want you all to know that you meant the world to him,” concluded the post (which Trina also shared on Facebook), signing off, “The Powell Family.”
Jesse was born in Gary, Indiana, in 1971. He released his self-titled debut album in 1996. His R & B song “You” was a hit. The single hit number 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and also appeared on Powell’s sophomore album, “‘Bout It.” Jesse Powell retired after his fourth record release in 2003.
